Windows Vista Shutdown Problems - Why Your System Isn't Working and What You Can Do About It

Both hardware and software issues can cause Windows Vista to restart or shut down unexpectedly. Often, these sudden shutdowns come with a blue screen of death, also known as a stop screen or BSOD. Stop screens appear whenever a critical error has occurred and are meant to inform the user that Windows Vista can no longer operate due to the error. If the error is especially bad, Windows Vista won't be able to boot at all after the unexpected shutdown occurs.

In most cases, however, Windows Vista will boot right back up again, usually without problem. Unfortunately, if the error that caused the stop screen to appear isn't fixed, then Vista will continue to shut down without warning.

One of the most common problems that cause a computer to turn off Windows 7 Ultimate Key suddenly is overheating. Many of the hardware inside the computer -- especially the Office 2011 Mac Serial component called the central processing unit, or processor, which is responsible for executing all of the tasks Windows needs to carry out -- output a lot of energy, which in turn causes the PC to get very hot if not properly cooled. Internal fans are meant to keep the computer cool, but if a fan breaks, or if the fans are clogged, the PC will shut down to protect the computer (heat can cause serious damage to hardware). This problem is particularly common in laptops.

You can clean out clogged fans with compressed air, which is basically nothing more than air in a can. If you're using a laptop, you can attach a small straw-like nozzle to the mouthpiece of the can; this nozzle makes it easier to fit the compressed air in between the narrow vents where the fan is located. While holding the can upright, simply spray the compressed air in between the vents to remove the dust and debris clogging the computer fan.

It's not just overheating that can cause Windows Vista to suddenly shut down, though. If your operating system is outdated, software conflicts or bugs can also make the computer stop working. Windows includes with all Vista PCs software called Windows Update. This software is designed to automatically install the latest patches and service packs to your computer. These patches repair Windows 7 Professional Key bugs in the OS that can cause the computer to malfunction. Windows Update is on automatically, but Office 2011 Mac Serial other users who access your PC can turn this program off if they have administrative permissions.

If you think that Windows Update might be disabled on your PC, Office Mac 2011 Product Key you can turn the application back by clicking "Windows Update" on the Start Menu. After clicking the "Automatic" option in the "Change Settings" menu, Vista will automatically begin installing new patches to your system, fixing bugs that may have affected your computer's behavior.

Viruses can also cause your computer to act strangely. You should always have an antivirus application installed to your PC to prevent infections, and run regular virus scans on your PC to check for malicious software.

Troubleshooting computer issues is sometimes difficult even for PC experts, but performing the above steps is often enough to fix shutdown problems in Vista.
